Adding the stinkin forum button seems to have been lost in my head

Errors. A bunch from me trying to add the stinking forum button.


OK, I admit it. I am shamed by my lack of coding skills...
What used to be a routine coding issue, I can't seem to accomplish anymore.
What happened?
I tried all the usual methods.
Added the code to the index.template.php;
Added the $txt code to index.english.php
Nothing but the error > unable to load template above.
So, I went old school, and just added the code to index.template.php, but removed $txt string.
Still no go.
Is this a TP issue? or, just  an idiotic mistake by a half crippled man, with a quick onset of dementia?

I don't see that you added any code to the file for a forum button. Can't tell you what's wrong if I can't see what you're doing.

No, I just uploaded the clean files in the hope that you would point me in the right direction.

Looks like you're using an editor that adds a lot of extra lines. All of your lines were doublespaced in mine when I opened your index.template.php file. I'd suggest you find another editor. One that doesn't automatically convert spaces to lines etc.

Try this file:

I use notepad++, but that file was fresh, I didn't change it.
Anyway, your fix produces the same error I got: " Unable to load the 'main_above' template."
So, maybe I'm not going whacky..lol

I think that a lot of these problems are occuring because Bloc has written TP1.0 Beta 5 on SMF 2 .. which has changed the default theme and style sheets. also (as far as i know) TP 1.0 Beta 5+ no longer actually changes the default SMF themes like the older TP's did. so anything that relied on those changes will look and possibly act differently if you don't modify old references

I noticed that. Code seems to be written to fit the RC3 style.
So, I still have no answer until the theme authors update their themes. Because the 1.1.11 themes just don't jive with TP 1.0.5-1...........
On to Drupal or wordpress I suppose. To bad.....

Sounds to me that you have a theme issue.  Does it do this in the default theme?

If not then the issue is a theme problem. And since the latest versions of TP for 1.1xx use any theme that is compatible with SMF then you need to seek the advice of the theme creator.

At the point I had made my original post, I had already tried 5 different themes, so I was like, wtf?
But, I tried one of Bloc's themes, then I'll know for sure. Sure enough, it works.
I'd still like to know the problem with the other one, but I'm moving on. How does adding a forum button create a "main above sub template" error?

Thouight you would go drupal or wordpress by now
