I just realized that any page created needs to be under a category.   Quite frankly i think is a bummer.

If i want to make a "about me" page, it has to be under a "whatever" category like this:

mysite >> whatever >> about me

when in TP98 you could make pages alone without categories like this:

mysite >> about me

Am i thinking too much?  We still have this option?

Mick,

I'll take your word for it that it was like that TP 0.98 because I can't recall.  I think that since TP 1.0 first came out, all articles needed to be in a category to be available for viewing.  Until an article is assigned to a category only Admins will be able to see it since the membergroups that are allowed to view it are assigned to the category.

In beta 5, you will simply get a TP error that says "This article isn't assigned yet."

Yep,....  i seen the "TP error".   Unfortunately i have to assign categories to pages that i feel they dont need them.

What I do is just make an 'Other' category and anything that doesn't fit goes in there.

It was like that at one time, but so many errors came from it.

Maybe Bloc can revisit?

For now, I just make a category called "pages", and put my pages there.

Mick

Thanx for the ideas.....

I was having trouble on what to call these pages.   "pages" sounds good.

Thanx.

FWIW,  i dont think i had any errors with orphan pages in TP98.

The problem is that permissions are directly tied to categories, but using stand-alone articles means those permissions must be stored *just* for that article alone. It will be confusing because you might first setup a article, set permission, then move it later to a category and suddenly it no longer show for certain member-groups(since its now following the category permissions)

I feel this is less intuitive than knowing that ANY article must be in a category, end of story lol. What might be a option though, is to select that the category should NOT show through "cat=xxx" - which for standalone articles collected up will just look strange. It could also omit the category link in linktree then. Effectively be a "hidden" category, only visible in TP admin.

How does that sound?
