I've seen it mentioned in a couple of places and wondered if anyone had some hands on experience with it.  Is it worth paying out for or better to stick to a normal editor ya think ?

I hear it's a pretty good one. I tried the free version they had once and thought it was very good.

Here is a nice review of 8 PHP power tools... Eclipse PDT came up with high marks.

I tried the free version as well.  I don't know why I quit using it.  I think I still have it installed.  At this time, the ones I use most are Context and Notepad++.

I've tried it in the past but it seemed pretty slow then. That was about 2 years ago...I think.

I use Notepad++ and ConTEXT now.  O0

Thanks for the responses.  Had a quick scan of the reviews and NetBeans seems a good option - especially as it is free.  I have downloaded PHP designer to see what is like.  And also another one called  Antechinus PHP Editor which is also paid for.  Can't really see the point in paying if NetBeans is so good really..

Never heard of ConTEXT, look interesting...I used to use Crimson Editor a lot but nowerdays I use Notepad++ too - it used to crash a lot for me, but since I moved to Windows 7 or they updated it, it has been fine.

I use netbeans here at work for java development. It's a pretty decent IDE.

Some of you may not know, but there's a huge difference between an IDE and an editor. IDE's are usually coupled with SVN/CVS support, along with debugging and all sorts of other tools. Editors usually just syntax highlight and throw in the occasional extra features. Editors are much ligther than IDE's. I think the full download of Netbeans is like 250MB. Where as Notepad++ is only a few MB's.

I use phpDesigner.
I have tried others, but I've used phpDesigner for that long, they just didn't feel 'right'.

The latest version is pretty good, and the basic syntax checking is quite handy, along with the autocomplete lists.

Well I've been playing with the PHP version of netbeans for a few hours now and I really like it - so many useful features, I think it will do the trick.  I was pleased to find only about eight errors in one of my websites. I'll still use an editor though for quick stuff, but use netbeans for bigger projects.

I have become comfortably numb!
