TP Upgrade 9.5 > 1.0 b4 - What happened to previous shouts?

I did a test upgrade on my site. Everything went smooth, but the shouts that were in the shoutbox before the upgrade are gone. Not a huge deal, but just curious if this is normal. I read that the shoutbox was revamped to be an external module now...so is that the reason why?

The upgrade was from SMF 1.1.1 to 1.1.11 and TP from 9.5 to 1.0 beta 4
