How do all you men and women feel about on line dating?

I am largely limited (as most know) to getting out, you know hanging out..like a lot of singles do.. I don't do bars and stuff so, I do try and date on line via all the sites..without much success thus far simply because of distance. Have any of you had or know anyone who has a good lasting relationship via on line dating?

Any input much appreicated...

I know a couple that got hooked up via online dating.  They're still together and have a family.

I think you have to be awefully lucky in this type of situation.  Seen too many spoofs on t.v. I guess.

Nope  :'(

Over a period of about 3 years, I was approached online by two American ladies (I'm a Brit) - both in forums I managed. They both took the same tack, being extremely personable and enquiring. The first lady then phoned a friend of mine to check if I was real; but I was not keen on getting serious with somebody I didn't know in the real world and I let it drop.

The second lady was more persistant. One day I got an email from her, internally addressed to somebody else, and it was a report on her view of her relationship with me. Part of it was untrue and other parts showed a deliberate calculation that chilled me. I sent it back to her and she explained that it was to her private journal. I dropped her.

Also, both expected me to fly off to join them. I did not like the idea of turning up on somebody else's doorstep and being scrutinised by their family and friends.

Then I met a Scottish lass in the real world, thanked my lucky stars and married her, double quick time  ;D

Since then, I have taken on a couple of permanent illnesses, one with a side-effect of making walking difficult - moving my legs is like swinging lumps of wood  So it's too late - I can no longer run away to escape.

In my experience, online dating is fraught with danger, if only because the web encourages misrepresention. On top of that, clear communication is hampered by the nature of the medium. With many thousands of dating sites, there must be example of success, but the odds are stacked against. I think that to try this realistically, one must be optimistic (to try) and deeply cynical about everyone who seems interested - quite a trick.

Good luck!

These things are really iffy, unless an intermediary like eHarmony is employed. Even then, you could end up with sex fiends, theives, herpes victims, adulterers, etc.

Have you considered looking at church?

My dad met my step mom in an online gaming thing.  Pongo or whatever.  They have been married now for three years.

My dad was in California and she was in New Jersey.  He now lives in Jersey.

WSA,
your Dad was one of the lucky ones .. hope it last a lifetime for them both. :)

I have been happily married for 10 years now.  Met physically vs. virtually.  At our church, they have a huge singles thing going on.  All ages and some very good looking women.

If I wasn't married, I would be married. ;)

Yup, I hope so to for my dad.  They have been married for 3 years now and seem to be doing fine.  This is his 4th wife so I also pray it lasts for the rest of their lives.
