Why am I getting a Maintenance Mode page showing?

For the past few days I've been getting the maintenance mode page showing, whenever I try to the view this site.

Yet, now that I've just tried a circumventor, I can view it fine?

I've tried deleting cookies, but I still get the Maintenance mode page showing (2 different computers, IE, FF and Safari).

Change the settings.php file manually.

maintenance mode 1 to maintenance mode 0

It's this site (ie. tinyportal.co.uk) that's the problem.

My own sites are all fine.

This is something I have struggled with as well - you see, the old IP on the old server(we are on a new one here now) took its good time propagating, so I set the old to maintenace, so no overlapping posts would appear at least.

I would think most people will see the new IP now though.

I did wonder about it being a IP/DNS problem, however I've had this problem since wednesday or thursday, and any DNS updates should of filtered through long before now.

Is there another URL to connect to the site i.e. a direct access one you get for if nameservers aren't set-up yet, that I could use for now?

I'm getting fed-up having to use a circumventor, as it's full of pop-ups.


Also, would it be worth updating the maintenance message on the old server, as I'm sure I'm probably not the only person with this problem?

The quick way is to add to your hosts file:

174.37.76.36 tinyportal.co.uk

But you are right, its strange it takes this long for it to change. I'll investigate.

We're finally onto the new server, without having to circumvent anything!


And that IP only takes you to the basic server page.
That's the IP i got earlier when I tried an URL to IP lookup.

No, don't use it directly, that won't work. You need to add in "hosts" file on your PC, so the DNS service on the PC get redirected correctly.

ipconfig /flushdns  is the command on windows to clear the dns cache. I had to do that on a couple of my machines to pick up the changes.
