Installing TinyPortal on SMF 1.0.6 through Web Shell

Hey,

I've been trying to recreate a phpBB FetchAll forum/portal system with SMF after a friend showed me his SMF forums. Now, the problem is that I can't seem to install TP on my SMF 1.0.6. Everything I do is done via the (mandatory by my host, seemingly) webbrowser based file manage Web Shell (version 4.3.2).

My main issue is that I can't follow the guidelines provided here on www.tinyportal.co.uk to set permissions for all my files and folders. When I tried to install it anyway, I constantly recieved the same error message about non-accessable folders. So, I started over and tried using the SMF Package Manager, but that failed too. The installation guide tells me the following:

Go to Package Manager > Installation Options > Cleanup Permissions > Select  All are files writable and click on "Go"

Then fill out the FTP Information Required screen using the following guidelines.

The FTP screen will appear like thisâ€Ã,¦

FTP Server: localhost             Port: 21
Username:   
Password:   
Local path to SMF: (there will be a suggested starting path here)

This is however not possible on my panel, because it looks like this:



So here is where it ends. Any clever ideas, tips and solutions to this would be greatly appreciated.

If you dont have your own FTP program to connect with I think you have to contact your host and ask them to change your permissions to the files for you.

The only thing i can think of if for you to contact your host and ask them to send you the codes and paths for your domain.

Trying to install it on SMF 1.1 RC2 instead, I downloaded CuteFTP to make it easier, but it looks like I have to go in and edit every single file, one by one, to change CHMOD to 777 instead of 644, is it possible to speed this up somehow?

Try Filezilla. I think that one can set many files to a permission in one swoop.I use WS-FTP and it works like that.

But can't CuteFTP do this too? by selecting mutiple files I maan?

yes it can, you can mark a folder and it will chmod to all of it's content

Flash FXP have the same options in the settings of chmod files. one or whole folders
Remeber to change the files back to read only after you have changed them

CuteFTP is my upload client,
it's fast and easy.. has all the options to chmod any file/folder to whatever you want..it's cute too.
