I cannot seem to find anything on SM site re version SMF1.1rc2 regarding my problem.
Forgive me if it has been asked and also that it is an SM related question

I am new to SM and TinyPortal so this may be something very simple that I am missing.
I want to set up an forum for a debate between certain Members
So I need to set  a group to have read and post permissions in this  forum  while all other members can only read posts

I see on SM site where it was explained how to do this for earlier versions. Is this option available in the latest SMF1.1rc2.

go to Admin --> Members --> permission and set the your permission for each group by modify them

Thanks Elpvn for your reply.
I see in this area that I can only set post replies to any topic, but this also must be ticked for all groups otherwise they could not post anywhere.

How do I make it topic specific so that a selected group has permission only to post in a selected topic.

I'm sorry to seem so dumb on this.

What I want is to make a new catergory and topic for a debate. I only want certain members that I am going to put in the group to be allowed to post in the debate. All other members to read only. But I want all members to be able to read and post elsewhere.

I hope I make some sort of sense with what I am saying :-\

my site is www.cultbusters.com.au

I don't think you can set it so that only certain members can reply in a certain topic. I think you can only set permissions on boards, not topics. I could be wrong though.

Yes ! I agree with IchBinâââ,¬Å¾Ã,¢  ;D

You can set it by go to: Admin --> Forums --> Board and modify the board are you want change the access permisson  :)

Thanks again kind friends for such quick responses.

I have tried now setting the debate area as a board and called it Special Debate.

The group I named Closed Debate.

I then went to board settings and under allowed groups I have unchecked Closed Debate and set the remainder of groups to read only.

That works fine for that group. But if I log in under someone from the closed debate group the boards not visible.

When I check only closed debate and set it to normal option
I log in under a closed debate member and they can read and post.
When I log in under other member the board is not visible.

Is anyone able to do a test setup of what I'm trying and see if I am doing something wrong.?

As I would like other members to read and not post but closed debate members to post.

thanks in advance

I think I have found a way around it.

What I did was set all groups to read only on the board and I have set mod rights to the board to a few and this allows them to read and post.

Question is how many mods can I allow?

I will need only 10-12 to take place in the debate.
