Im using tp.96 in my forum and have 2 questions which im hoping somebody can help me

I have numerous blocks on my site and I name each as a different category and have numerous articles in each , which all work fine my 2 question are...

1. How can I put the articles in a certain category in say alphabetical order and not in the date order as it defaults to at the moment

2. In each block it says who loaded each article, although the "show author" box in not ticked, how can I remove the authors from the blocks( it doesnt show the author in the actual article itself)

bloc

For the first one: its not possible in TP 0.96, you need TP 1.0 beta4 for that.

For the second: also possible in TP 1.0 beta4, but there is bug with it still which will be corrected in TP 1.0 beta5.

Thank-you for your reply....

If i download the new version will it automaticely transfer all my articles and blocks etc or is there other things i would need to do after the download

dunks,

To answer your question, once you upgrade, all of your blocks and articles will be preserved.  However, before you upgrade, just to make sure you have no problems, make a backup of your Forum and database, switch to the SMF default theme, uninstall TP version 0.96, and then install the newest TP.

Thank-you, but I have come over the following message while trying to carry out the upgrade

"This package cannot be uninstalled, because there is no uninstaller!

Please contact the mod author for more information. "

you will need to download the tinyportal 0.96 zip via ftp un-zip and change xml file to your forum version in the Packages folder from your forum root

Is there a guide on how to do this , As youve lost me and Im not 100% comfortable doing it :o :o :o :o :o :o :o

Connect to your server via FTP, and in the Packages directory, download the TP_xxx.zip to your computer.

Unzip it, then open the package-info.xml in a text editor.
Look for the lines -
<install for =" {closest match to your version of SMF*} ">
and
<uninstall for =" {closest match to your version of SMF*} ">

*The closest version is for what branch of SMF you're using.
i.e. if you're currently using SMF 1.1.x, look for the lines covering that branch of SMF.
Or if you're using 1.0.x, look for those lines.

Then just add your version of SMF to those lines, in a simlar to format to the existing listed versions (i.e. a comma followed by a space, then the SMF version)

Save the file, then rezip all the files, and finally upload it to the server, overwriting the existing package.

If you're unsure about modding the xml file, attach it to your post here, and I'm sure somebody will do the necessary changes

Hi dunks,

Undoubtedly uninstalling a TP version as old as TP 0.96 prior to installing a new TP version can be problematic.  However,there are a couple of things you could try.  First I must ask you a few questions.

*** Everything below should be done only after you have backed up your Forum and database, and while your Forum is set to use the default SMF core theme. ***

1.  Do you know whether you have installed any other SMF Mods after you installed TP, way back when?

If the answer to # 1 is no, then no other Mods have made edits to the files and uninstalling would be easier.

2.  If #1 above is "No", do you have an uninstall link for the TP 0.96?  If you do, then you may be able to use the version emulate trick for the package manager to uninstall TP 0.96.  The SMF versions that TP 0.96 was setup to install on were ...
<uninstall for="1.0.5, 1.0.6, 1.0.7, 1.0.8">

I've never used this method to uninstall, only to install, so if it doesn't work, then you will probably have to continue on.  To try the version emulate trick, add the following to the end of your Forum url ...
?action=packages;version_emulate=1.0.8

In other words, if your Forum is located at ...
http://yoursite.com/smf/index.php
then put this in your address bar and hit enter ...
http://yoursite.com/smf/index.php?action=packages;version_emulate=1.0.8

The package manager will revert to the SMF 1.0.8 emulation and the uninstall of TP 0.96 may work.

3.  If this doesn't work, the next easiest way would be to try the trick that Lord Anubis put up a while back.  If you use this method, you will have to reinstall all of your SMF Mods that you want to keep after you do it, but sometimes it's the easiest way to do an upgrade.  Before doing this, make sure you have made a note of the SMF Mods you want to reinstall because all the Mods, including TP 0.96, will be gone.  Read and follow the topic below ...
http://www.tinyportal.net/index.php/topic,27943.0.html

That's about it.  These are the easiest to do.  Keep us posted on your progress.

I followed the above instructions, and it allowed me to remove tp and all the blocks disappeared from my site and then tried to upload tp 1.083 but it said I couldnt upload it as it wasnt  compatable with my version of smf(1.1.10), So i had to re-install to 0.983 but when doing this it has put 2 forum buttons onto my site now
