That's what I'm thinking. Tell them to chown and chmod your files for you.

Afaik the format between domain should be "Redirect /index.html http://australianopinion.com.au/forum/index.php" - any suggestions??

Why would it be html and not php?

You can set a redirect using cPanel or by creating a php file with code that will do it.

The problem isn't that the file is wrong... more that for some reason .htaccess won't update.

It *should* do it... so I'll call the hosting service support and ask them

As far as I know the server looks for an html index file first then php so when the browser sends it's request the server will look in the domain for index.html... when that happens the .htaccess redirects directly to the file you want loaded... which is index.php

I could be wrong of course but iirc it's always worked in the past... as long as the redirect command can be saved to the file. :)

Did you ever look at your database to see if any queries were hanging while during the page load? In phpMyAdmin you can click the processes tab to see what queries are running at that time. Its shows you how long the query is running.

Actually no... nobody suggested it until now :D

I suppose in theory the site is still there in the database if I could get the software to access it... but I'm a technical dyslexic which is why I have to keep asking daft questions.

As you saw tho in the end it was just taking up too much time so I rebuilt most of the site on the 'sister' domain and have left the members to sort themselves out. If I could get the redirect to work the remaining members would find the site easily enough and decide if they want to rejoin or not.

Thanks again everyone for the support... no doubt something else will crop up soon enough! :)

Good idea, Ich! ;)

It's all ok. Members seem happy enough with the 'new beginning'. Could have been worse :D

Thanks again guys!!

Well to be fair I was wondering if anyone else thought there might be a conflict somehow between SMF and TP... so I do have some sort of excuse :D

Honest... ! :D

Until we rule out that TP isn't actually causing the slowness. >:D

And did we come to any conclusion either way? ;)

Sadly no... my hamfisted attempts to clone/save/repair the thing ended by killing it before any conculsions could be reached. :)

Having said that I am still getting a few issues on the site one of which only appeared after installing TP. That one is the posting window having problems when messages are more than 11 - 13 lines long. It's not serious but it's an irritation. Basically when you try to type longer messages, the cursor stays in position... but the window position 'jumps' up a few lines.

And of course it could be caused by one of the other mods. Before I try to remedy it I should really uninstall the other mods one by one to check which is actually causing the problem... but I'm concerned if I do that I'll end up killing the site again.  :buck2:

It might be resolved by increasing the size of the posting window but I've not yet found out where that's set. :D

Start by checking with the default theme and other browsers. If it's a problem with one of our themes or TP, please start a new topic :)
