This is the strange bug ever. :buck2:
Browsing my website (www.mysammy.it) with IE7-8 or Opera you'll notice that you can't click on some Read more links (look at the first newspost), while there are no problems if you use FF or Chrome.
Why? What can I do?

These are my forum specs: SMF 1.1.9, TinyPortal 1.0 beta 3, custom theme (kani) by Fussilet and just few addons...
  • Advanced Contact Form
  • SMF Canonical Tag
  • nCode Image Resizer
  • Pretty URLs
  • SMF 1.0.17 / 1.1.9 / 2.0 RC1 Update
  • SMF Sitemap
  • Ad Managment

    :)

EDIT: I tried (with no results) switching to the default theme and upgrading to TP 1.0 beta 4.

Zetan

I don't have any problem as a Guest using IE6.

??
I tried with IE6 and there is the same problem. You have to look at the Read more link in the first newspost ('Read more' in italian is 'Leggi tutto'), see the screenshot below. :)

Thank you for the quick reply!

Zetan

I see.

I think it's probably due to the content in the post, it seems to be a Flash video? I'm at work and those are blocked. Try removing the video as a test.. I've had similar issues and have had to juggle the content around a bit till I get the desired results, however, I don't use TP's built in articles that retrieve forum posts, I use a custom one that uses SSI_boardNews, pretty much the same thing, only it's configurable within the article code or block.

Zetan

If you visit my site, the home page, you'll see mine is similar.. but I can increase or decrease the ammount of characters displayed in the article.

You're right, removing the youtube video did the trick... TP is now starting to make me mad. :( ;D

Sounds interesting, can you be more specific? What's the difference?

Can you do that for each article? Example: article 1 with 400 characters displayed, article 2 with 390 characters displayed...

Thank you Zetan.

You can do better than "for each article" ;)

You can output from a board, perhaps like I have, a News board where the first post features on the home page.

Code (PHP type Article or Block) Select

ssi_boardNews($board = 40.0, $limit = 3, $start = null, $length = 1050, $output_method = 'echo');

  • $board = Board Number
  • $limit = How many topics (the first post)
  • $start = null
  • $length = character count
  • $output = echo

there are lots of different ways to output board news, theres probably quite a few snippets in the Block Code Snippets Board. Perhaps you might find something of use there. Mine is a simple method which works for me and saves having to create tons of articles.. You may prefer individual articles.

I'm doing some tests with your method, thank you. :) By the way, isn't this a bug for the bug tracker?

Zetan

You're welcome.

Not really, it isn't a "bug" as such. It's likely to be using SMF's SSI functions, TP is pretty much doing the same thing as my method. It is probably not rendering all the HTML in the video, if you look at my home page there is an article just about to render some HTML, not enough characters to affect the news:

If it's a bug anywhere, which it isn't, it's in the SMF's SSI function. It's purely down to the character count.
