Good Morning All :)

Iââ,¬â,,¢ve been trying to get my TP section for news and front page to work how I would expect and hope however do have some issues Iââ,¬â,,¢m hoping someone might be able to help with. Iââ,¬â,,¢ve reviewed the support section and avail docââ,¬â,,¢s and either I donââ,¬â,,¢t get it or am doing something wrong.

I have a front page block setup and should be seen by guests following this block Iââ,¬â,,¢ve tried to setup a news area allowing it to be also seen following / under the front page block.

Upon someone registering to our forums the front page block should then not be seen (should only be viewable by guests. However they should then see the forum posts that are set to show on the front page.

I donââ,¬â,,¢t think the above is working that way, as an administrator I donââ,¬â,,¢t get to see it all, I do have a regular account and some of it seems to work and as a guest I do see the front page block but not the forum news stuff.

Moving to the forum news stuff, we have a board setup where all our news stories are posted, these stories are then set to show on the front page and setup to show even if guests do not have permission to see the board. The board setup has been hidden from all other than the administration / another group / the reporters who login under a reporters name and only get to see that one board.

Do I need to make this board viewable to all? How do I keep my boards tidy if I do and have I set things up the right way?

Upon having a couple of new stories added and then advising the forums users, a number of them have advised they canââ,¬â,,¢t see the stories as it is blank, some have advised they are using IE7 some have advised they can see it in IE but not in FireFox. I know some software causes issues with TP & SMF but Iââ,¬â,,¢m just not sure I have things right and ask for some suggestions please.

Gavin,

Your post is somewhat confusing.  I can't tell exactly what it is you are wanting to show on the Front Page.  It sounds like you Guests to see only a Front Page Block and members to see only posts from the News Board?  Is this correct?

Sorry ZarPrime,,,,,,

I'd like the Guests to see front page block plus the news posts from a hidden board

See Front1

I'd like those registered to be able to see just the forum posts without the front page block

See Front3

but some people are saying they don't see the news on the front page at all.

Following is a like advising the stoories being added and there replies if it helps, but in short that sounds about right

What people? Those that do see the news and those that don't must be in different Member Groups, either custom groups, or Post Count groups, and they can all have different permissions.

You can get quite an indepth overview of Group Permissions by generating a report, it's probably a good idea to print it out as it's quite wide and you can use a ruler to follow the tables of groups and their permissions.

Here's the action for generating Reports:

Thanks for your response,

I know all about groups / permissions etc, been runing the software for sometime now and yes these are the same people in the same groups. Appreciate your reply but I'll not worry about it. It seems to hard for me to explain myself well enough.

Thanks anyways guys I'll try somthing else.....

Zetan

Rightio then.

So if it's not permissions of member groups, are you suggesting it's a bug?

Zetan

See this topic, I'm not sure if it was submitted as a bug:

Have a look in the Bug Tracker.

Hi Gavin,

Don't give up so easily Man.

Let's see if we can solve the problems that you are having.  Let's forget about using this block as a Front Page block and use it as an "Upper" Block instead.  There are issues with using the Front Page Blocks in the current beta and they may have been there in your version as well.

1.  Go to Admin --> Forum --> Boards and click "Modify" for the News Board.  Make sure that ALL Groups are set to allow Access to that Board, including Guests.  Access doesn't mean that Guests will be able post (that's a permission setting), but that they will be able to see the posts.

*** Asssuming you are NOT using the "Upper" Panel for anything else, what we are going to do is move your Front Page Block to that Panel and make sure it is enabled.  Even if you are using the "Upper" Panel for other blocks, we can still do what we are going to do.

2.  Go to Admin --> TinyPortal --> Panels and Blocks --> Frontpage and move that FrontPage Block that you want to show to Guest to the "Upper" Panel.

3.  Up at the top, click "Upper" and the "Upper" Blocks will now be shown.  Click the edit button for the Block that was a Frontpage Block but is now in the Upper Panel.  Make sure that only Guests is checked for "Choose your membergroups that will able to see this block."  Now, while you are in this edit screen, click "Go to visible options".  Under Actions, put a check in the box that says Front page ONLY and save it.

4.  Now below that, click Panel.  This will take you to the "Upper" Panel settings.  Make sure that "Use upper panel" is ON.  If you want to hide the upper panel in the forum then make sure that setting is NO.

5.  Finally, go to Admin --> TinyPortal --> Settings and Frontpage --> Front page and look at the setting for "What to display on front page:".  If you have no articles to show on the FrontPage select "Only forum-posts", otherwise select "Forum-posts and articles - sorted on date".  Look down to where it says "Visual options for frontpage ( disabled in Single Page option )" and make sure "Display upper panel" is selected.

6.  Now save, and go back to Home and see if everything looks right.  Then log out and see if everything looks as it should.  Finally, if you have an account that is not an Admin account, log on with that and go Home and make sure that the upper block is NOT shown but the News Posts are shown.

That oughta do it.  Let us know.

Cheers Guys,

I might have been a tad frustrated upon posting not with you guys or the software, it was with myself as I didnââ,¬â,,¢t think I explained things well enough, I had a huge medical issues hit me late last year and from that it takes me a lot longer these days to get my thought out well. You might recall my PM from some months ago ZarPrime :)

Anyways I hope you guys didnââ,¬â,,¢t feel I was getting frustrated with you as it was not my intention and Iââ,¬â,,¢m sorry if it came over that way. :(

Now I understand the issue might be a bug (and maybe not) and after following the suggesting from ZarPrime it is all working they way I was hoping for.

My huge thanks guys, Iââ,¬â,,¢m really appreciative for all your assistance and again pass thanks.

ZarPrime

Gavin,

NP.  I'm just glad we helped you get it worked out.

I will go ahead and mark your topic solved.
