I am just starting to get a fair bit of traffic now on my SMF forums, but need some help configuring TP or understanding its potential.
I currently run the forum as a series of closed set of different groups, all controlled by SMF security groups. One of the groups (users in the groups) wants a personalised news file/article when they logon in the HOME page which only they would see, thus customising the news files so there is one for each "closed forum" section.
Is this possible and how do I set this up in SMF / TP?

Chris it would be helpful and easier to give you an answer if you give the info asked for in the posting guide.

Ken.

Thanks.

You may want to consider updating to a later version of TinyPortal so as to gain more options and controls with your TP functions, especially the articles system.

One of our code specialists may have a better answer for you, but some of what you ask for may not be currently possible.
One approach that would get you part of the way to your goal would be to make a block and set it to be visible only to those member groups that you want to have access to the 'news' article... You could have links in the block to the articles.
The only problem is that while the block with articles links would not be visible to other groups, they would be able to see the articles if they happened to stumble upon the link/page.

As for the news, if you are talking about the SMF news function; AFAIK you can't set that for membergroups, it's on or it's off.

ok, I will upgrade my TP to the latest version (I assume 1.0 Beta 3?)
Is this all backwardly compatible with TP themes for 0.9.7?

Ken.

Because you've not upgraded for a while it might be best for you to do some reading before you get started, or make any changes, so take a look at the release notes that Bloc posted for the B3 version and it would be good to read the rest of that topic as well:

The Docs are also good to read and then you can always ask questions of course.

Chris,

A couple of things.  When you upgrade your TP, make sure you have your Forum set to the SMF default theme before doing so and before you start ...
Backup, Backup, Backup.

Finally, I notice that you are using the Alienation theme.  It will probably work fine with TP 1.0 Beta 3 but if it doesn't, it only means that you will probably need to download and install a newer version of the theme.  Both a TP version and a non-TP version are located here ---> http://www.tinyportal.net/index.php?action=tpmod;dl=item507

Either file will work fine, but this one will already have a Forum button ---> http://www.tinyportal.net/index.php?action=tpmod;dl=get599

Of course..
Although Alien theme is the default, I also have World of Warcraft installed.
