Hello Im just starting to use TinyPortal again and I had no problems using this before and I really liked it. But when I bought a web host I could not install it. Their default mysql server is not localhost, its mysql01. How can I change it so tinyportal knows where to connect?

This error is from the tp_install.php

Warning: mysql_query() [function.mysql-query]: Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock' (2) in /websites/webfusionus/LinuxPackage11/zo/mb/ie/public_html/portal/tp_install.php on line 17

My error is caused I think because my webhost uses "MySql01" as the default mysql server instead of "localhost" Is this a possibility?

You are using the wrong file, you faild to tell me HOW you are trying to install TP

If you install tp through the package manager, and get this error, then you need to get help from your host, if you try and install manually, you are using the wrong db install file.

You must tell us what you are doing...

As part of the TP install you name the server that is used for the database. If you put the correct name there, ie: MySql01, and not localhost then it should be working. You had to put the correct name there for TP to install.

You can edit your settings.php file and change the name of the server in there if it is not correct.

it could also be a username/password problem also. Again you can edit that in your settings.php file.

Sorry for not being clear. But I contacted my webhost and they responded right away (usually its a few days) and the problem was sorted out. They changed the default mysql server name for me.
