Hey All, I am in the process of revamping my html website - www.pvcblue.com - but have come to a stop as I have hit the same problem I always do when trying to figure out how best to present my collection pictures. In the past I have just taken pictures of each individual smurf and then edited them to the size of around 200 X 200 pixels and made a page with a table of pictures and uploaded it to the server, and yes it looks nice, but it never really is what I want. What I would like is to have is something like the Media Gallery, where there are folders and small thumbnails and when the thumbnail is clicked it enlarges the picture and that way I could have bigger pictures showing more detail. I just can never figure out how to do this with just plain html pages and I am not that swift with anything else! LOL!! I thought of using a CMS program for my site, but each one I tried out (Joomla, Xoop, etc) I really didn't like as they were too hard to modify to look "Smurfy" and like a individual site and not a Joomla or Xoop modified site. So I am here asking what would you suggest?? What would you do to accomplish what I am wanting to do?

:buck2:

You could try using a popup window. There's a tutorial here.

Thanks for the idea JPDeni, I had thought of that, but I want to try and keep everything in one window. Myself, I don't like pop ups. LOL!!  :2funny:

Well, Coppermine would work good for this, but if you don't want to setup something like that for your main site you could just have a page with a table.  Inside each cell of the table you could have you pictures, only resize them to look like thumbnails and have each one link to the picture on a different page.  Of course, if you have too many cells it might still take awhile to load a page like that if the pictures are very big.

Zar - thank you for the response, but that is what I said in my post I already do and wanted to try and do it different....  :-\

You first said
Quotewhen the thumbnail is clicked it enlarges the picture

but when I suggested using a popup, you said

QuoteI want to try and keep everything in one window

Have you ever seen a site where you click a thumbnail and, in the same window, the thumbnail gets larger? If you can find one, take a look at the page source and see how they do it.

You might want to take a look at this script from Dynamic Drive.  It uses a modal window, which is sort of like a popup but not exactly.  It's actually pretty cool.  Here's the link ---> http://www.dynamicdrive.com/dynamicindex8/dhtmlwindow/dhtmlmodal.htm

That does look ok, I guess what I am really wanting is something like the Media Gallery, but  able to use it standalone not as part of a forum.  :'(

Well you might take a look at Dynamicdrive.com and see if there is a slideshow script or something that will do what you're looking for.  They've got quite a bit of nifty stuff there.  Here's one that might work for you ---> http://www.dynamicdrive.com/dynamicindex4/expandoimage.htm
