simplemachines.org stop supporting TP as an addon for SMF. Is there a new version of TP on the way? If so can you guys tell how soon?
Will you recomend to do use  TP v1.0.6 beta 2 in a SMF 1.1.7 forum?
Thanks!

G6Cad

SMF have never really supported TP as we have our own support site they have pointed to for support on TP.

I dont recomend eather of the TP V1 releases on a live site if you want to have a fully functional place for your members and also you as admin.
Both the V1 releases are quite buggy, and if you take a look in the bugtracker, you will see that the bugs are many, and if you like articles you will not be able to use them like in TP V098.
So keep to v098 until the next release of tp, we never give a time frame for our release as it's built on Blocs free time so we always say, "when it's ready" and we never know when that will be

Tanks for the info,,,,
I will try my new SMF 1.1.7 with the V098...

The problem now is that I have another live and growing forum SMF 1.1.6 with TP v1.0.6 beta and yes my bug report is huge,...
Would you recommend I downgrade to V098? if so do I just un-install and Install downgrade? or would be to risky of messing up the forum??

G6Cad

You cant downgrade if you dont have a complete backup of the TP V098 db right before you installed 1.0.6, if you have a complete backup of th old install, you can go back to that, but not possible in the way you described.

I maybe expressed my self wrong,, (English not my native language),,, by downgrade I refereed to install a previous version in this case V098...

But My site started off with TP v1.0.6 so I never upgraded it from any previous version... so I gess the only way is to uninstall completely 1.0.6 to go with V098....

My main concern is  the risk of messing the forum...

G6Cad

The answer would still be the same, not possible to install a lower version on a newer one.
So you are correct, you need to compleatly remove the TP you have installed and then install the old version instead.
With remove tp compleatly, it's both files, code from the smf files and the database tables.

The best way is to replace the files from SMF with the large upgrade package, that will give you a clean smf forum and then through phpmyadmin remove the tp tables from the db.
That leaves you with a pure smf forum install.

djrey

Thanks very much,,, I will do that,, that is better that way...     I think I may even remove completely the smf forum an reeinstall the 1.1.7 and remove all tp tables from db, and import to a new db so will have a brand new site 0 bugs and then install the full V098...

Thanks for your help. G6, I do like a lot the tp project, thanks for the good work.

hi guys, I would like to ask a question, don't know if it's a stupid one.... But there's something i really can't get to understand. We all appreciated the quality of TP and we are very grateful to its creator(s). We are using it for more than 2 years now and very satisfied despite some minor bugs.
Great job and we all know that all it's built on Blocs free time as it's always said.
My question is, why start another project (TP v1) instead of finishing (i.e. try to fix) the one everybody was using. Why leave a beta, just to start a new one? It'"s very frustrating to know that Boc's precious time is being used for this new project instead of concentrating with the unfinished TP 0.98
Sorry to bother you with my question and thanks again for the great job that's been done so far!

G6Cad

Your question is not stupid, i bet a lot of members using tp v098 thinks the same way as you.

The best answer would be that TP V1 is the resualt of the tp v098
They are just version numbers, but still the same tp but with codechanges and new requested features built in, so the development doesent stop at tpv098, 098 has become tpv1 simply put.

Don't forget that TP needs to keep up with SMF as well. This means a lot of changes, especially with SMF2 coming out. It has been well known for a LONG time that TP was/is going to add a lot of features. For this reason alone, it requires updating to a new version.
