Ive got the tinyportal set up and working great now and its fantastic.
Quck question,it came with a downloads module which is just what i needed for my site.
Im trying to add rar files but it wont allow me to upload the file???the server times out??

ive upped the upload file limit and added rar to the allowed exstentions,but still no joy.
Am i missing something???

How big is the file you're trying to upload? While you may have upped the upload limit, you're host has a limit set on the PHP configuration. You'll need to ask them to see what it is, and if they will up it if you need more.

If you try a file that is under 2 MB does it work? If so, refer to my comment above about your host.
