"submitting" articles

In addition to trying to figure out my alignment issues, I have another beginner's question.

Tinyportal documentation speaks of giving users permission to "submit" articles.  To me this sounds like they can click something, write and article, submit it, and then I can see it later, aprove it and publish it.

But so far, the only way I see to write an article is from within the bowels of the Admin panel.

Does this mean that, if I want someone to be able to write articles, I would have to make them an Admin?  I see the ability to edit articles you've already written, from your Profile, but nothing about creating them.  I don't mind creating articles from the Admin panel, but I certainly don't want my users running around in there.

In the user box, if users have the permission to submit an article, there will be a link to do so. For example, since I'm on the staff here at TP, my user box has links for

Submit HTML article .../index.php?action=tpmod;sa=submitarticle
Submit BBC article   .../index.php?action=tpmod;sa=submitarticle;bbc

When I click one of those links, I get a form for submitting the article.

Even if your users get access to the Admin panel, they will only be able to see and do the things that they have permission to do.

Here's a thought... Create another user for yourself, with limited permissions and log in as that user. Then you'll be able to see what users with those permissions will see.

Alright, thank you for the suggestion.

I created an alter-ego for myself.  I do see a link in the User box that says "Submit an article!"

Clicking it gives me: An Error Has Occurred!  Unable to load the 'main' template.

Maybe it is giving that error because ordinary users shouldn't have access to the Admin panel?

I can't debug your problem unless I know what sort of set up you have.

Well, I haven't really done much of anything with my site, but here it goes:

SMF version: SMF 1.1.5
TP version: 1.0.5
Theme name and version: error consistent across any theme (would be happy to resolve with default)
Mods installed: Tinyportal, that's it.
Related Error messages: Unable to load the 'main' template.

I get this error message when I click the "Submit an article" link from my User box.

Is there a separate form that allows non-admins to write an article?  Otherwise I'm wondering if I get this error because normal users are not allowed into the admin panel.

/edit:  Some additional information.  If I give them permission to manage articles, they can get to that screen just fine.  But if I only give them the various submit article permissions, they get the error.  So I guess it's not related to admin access.

The "unable to load the 'main' template" error is a well know bug in beta 1. Its fixed in the next beta.

Ah, thank you.  That's good news.  Just out of curiosity, is there a rough ETA for that fix?

In the meantime I may just let my senior members have the "manage articles" permission, which works.
