Download manager and FTP

Is it possable to upload a large file to the tp-download dir and then "add" it to the download manager?

Well..if you simply upload a small file - it can be anything - and call it the same as your file, you can re-upload through ftp the bigger file. mind you, the saved size will  be wrong.

This needs to be improved.

Almost everyone trying to upload files in my forum just freeze if they try to upload anything over 3 MBs. A better upload method is definately a must.

If you mean the server settings for timing out, I really don't know and don't have any control over that. So yeah logically if I had control over something like that I could find a solution. But I've never timed out in FTP to my service provider.

FTP and HTTP is different..so while you can ftp up well, it may fail on uploading through HTTP.

But I will add the option of just selecting files already ftp'ed up through a ftp program, never having to use the upload function at all. it will also filter out those you have already in the dl manager records.

the uploads dont really work well for me threw the download manager, when uploading big files i get

"The upload was not able to complete.This might happen because it took too long to upload or the file is bigger than the server will allow.

Please consult your server administrator for more information."

gota ftp the big files and re-name it in the database.

Thats why I asked what the server settings are. If you're php config file is only allowing you to upload a 2 meg file, then uploading anything bigger through the HTTP part as Bloc pointed out will not be an option for you. Good thing Bloc can take care of things for you guys that don't have control over your php config.

I get that error too.

I don't quite get it, I checked my php.ini and it is at 2 megs. But with coppermine I can upload files bigger then that with no issues.
Why can I upload bigger files in other upload areas though?
(I can upload huge files on my other CMS's on the same server for example)

(I raised the limit in the .ini file but I presume that the server needs to be restarted.)
