Install - Fail Test on index.template.php - Please Help

Please help, I really want to install TP but I am having the Test Failed error on index.template.php. I know a manual install is possible but I don't know why I have the error and if I should expect a manual install to be the proper answer, or if that would screw me with more errors afterwords. Is there a way to fix this easily? My forum is new with a small database, I just want to get it set up.

Thanks for the help. However some things are not totally clear. I will tell you what I understand and hope you can fill the missing pieces.

My understanding is to download the existing index.template.php and keep for safey, but also make a copy to manually edit for the necessary changes.

Then go ahead with the TP package install, ignoring the Test Failure message. After this I should then upload my edited version of index.template.php back to my server to overwrite the original and all should be well. Its only this one file that is failing, so hopefully it won't be that difficult.

As for the edits required, the FAQ you linked says:

"...open the "tp-version.mod" that corresponds with the TP version you are trying to install. Browse through it's content to familiarize yourself with the editing instructions before actually doing so. Now, open a copy of the files in your "TPfailed-install/SMF/TP" directory with your editor, and follow the editing instructions from your "tp-version.mod" file."

Where exactly are the instructions for editing the original index.template.php file?
What file is 'tp-version.mod'? The package I download from TP is a .zip, which contains several folders and all of the package files. I only need to edit the single index.template.php file, but inside the zip package are several "tinyportal10xx-10xx.mod" files and none of them are named 1.05 or .098, or have instructions for what to do. I also read the readme.txt inside the zip package but still did not find any instructions of what to do to my original index.template.php file.

I would appreciate If you could please help me further with any documentation on exactly what should be done to my original index.template.php file, and where to find the manual edits. In my case I am trying to install the new 1.05 version of TP but I would like to know the correct edits for either 1.05 and .098 in case the first one doesn't work.

I've already backed up my index.template.php file, backed up my forum site and backed up my database.

Yes.

1. Backup the file first. ( save it )
2. Make the proper edits to the file on the server
3. Save the file and reupload it.

If something is wrong, you can allways use the backup file you saved and not made any changes to.

Yes but where exactly do I find what edits to make to my index.template.php file? That is the file that fails the test. I understand I have to make the edits manually, but can let the installer do everything else.

So what edits do I make...where do I find the reference for that?
Im interested in the edits for TP 1.05.

tp-version is your TinyPortal version that you are installing. So the mod file might be named tinyportal-(version_number_here).mod  G6 gave a link to the same instructions used in the mod file.

I really do appreciate the help, and I've read the FAQs and following all of the advice. But I'm not sure you've read everything I said. I don't see any .mod file named with the version of TP that I'm installing.

The package I download from TP is a .zip, which contains several folders and all of the package files. The .mod files in the zip package are 4 or 5 and all named TP10xx-10xx.mod. None of them say TP098 or TP105 or similar. Also, when I open them its php but no text instructions. I also read the readme.txt inside the zip package but still did not find any instructions of what to do to my original index.template.php file.

The last link that was provided to the Modification Instructions is great, but it doesnt say what file those edits should be made on, or for which version of TP. Could you please verify to me that those Mod Instructions are the edits I should make to my index.template.php file, and that they will work for either TP 098 or 1.05? Seriously, this isn't at all stated in the instructions and I do appreciate your help.

Actually it does say for both versions, but it doesn't say what file the edits are for. there are many files modded during the TP package install so I want to be sure that these edits are all for my index.template.php file.

Also I still dont understand if there is anything else I'm suppose to do with any of the .mod files in the package, as the FAQ referred to. The FAQ also referred to installing it as a normal package, so I assume I will only need to FTP the index.template.php file, after the edits are made.
