file upload limited

Hi there,
I've been trying to upload files.
I have the setting in TP set to 20MB file limits.
I was reading and someone else had a similar problem and the recommendation was the ISP was limiting their uploads.
I can FTP my files up into the folders (but TP doesnt see the file) but TP wont upload it. the files are anywhere from 10MB to 20MB. like I said, I AM able to upload via FTP to the exact folder TP uses for storing the upload files but I cant use the tool (and neither can my users)

the only way I can upload it, is if I break the files down to 5mb or smaller.

Its most likely the host limiting uploading of files. TP can check the size, but it can't do anything with server limits.

For TP to "see" the uploaded files, you need 1) upload into tp-downloads folder and 2) use the "ftp" option to place what it finds then into correct categories. TP will not sense automatically whats in the folder.

I have no problem FTP'ing it to the folder.
like I said, it uploaded just fine when I FTP'd.
its 18mb total. the only way to get it to work with the util is by breaking it down to 5mb files.

but the explanation you gave me is perfectly fine for me. as long as I can get the files up and a link on the block thats really all that matters to me.

You can always ask your host to change the upload limit in the php.ini file. Its usually set at 2MB by default. You can check it with a php info file in the settings.

Put that code into a phpinfo.php file, and access it from your site (www.yoursite.com/phpinfo.php). You can then see what the limit in your PHP configuration on your host is.
