Hierarchy of permissions - Manage and assign membergroups

Hello all,

I posted this on the SMF forums as well.

I'm running SMF 1.1.5 with TP 0.983 for a MMORPG.

I am trying to set up a hierarchy of permissions (eg Founder, Officer, Esquire, Member, Recruit).  So afar I have got things working the way that I want.

My problems is that I need Esquires to be able to "Manage and assign membergroups"  so that they can approve members change their Membergroup from Recruit to Member.  Unfortunately there does not seem to be a way to make it so that Esquires can not move themselves into either the Officer or Founder group.

Does anyone have a suggestion as to how this could be accomplished?
