removing 2 arrows that do nothing?

You could comment out the TP code in index.template.php in your amber theme that refer to the Upshrink.gif  Or you could replace the image called in that line with blank.gif as it is already in the theme/images folder.
I do not think amber was made for TP, due to the sidebar in the theme.
