Grrrrrrrrrr SMF 1.0.6 update

Damn thing has buggered me right up. I`m seriously thinking of giving up with this whole forum lark. Too many inconsistencies for me, with far too many small updates.


Bloc you have a great CMS but SMF is driving me mad.

How can one start fresh and also save whats in the forum? Any advice greatly appreciated, thanks.

You could try to back-up the SQL database with tables and structure, save this somewhere,then do a fresh install, and restore your backed up SQL database.

Why can't you just upgrade? You having some problems?

start fresh but keep everything? (topic, groups, etc.)

- delete your entire smf folder
- leave the databases alone
- upload a new smf
- run install.php
- don't worry about the create an admin step during the install
- use the same database as the old smf

done.

The just did a fresh reinstall of 1.0.5 as well.  The mysql compatibility patch 5.012, which is included with the 1.0.6 upgraded messed up my forum.  Apparently, my host does not yet support this version.

I did something like this if I remember correctly:

- On test and main site the following was done
- Backed up forums via Yahoo! control panel
- Saved core files (Sources, Themes)
- Uninstalled Mods
- Copied over fresh 1.0.5 files via FTP
- Test
- Install Mods
- Modified mods such as Arcade and TPortal.english.php
- Replaced index.english.php with modified/saved version
- Backed up
- Reviewed cchmod'd files

I've been monitoring the performance since yesterday for any follow up errors.

I`ve been using smf for about 10 months or so i guess, but i am code iliterate

Why can't you just upgrade? You having some problems?

I did at first try the package manager upgrade, but ended up with TWO lots of 1.0.6 updates. The googlebot mod caused a failure with the ssi.php and i would guess the changelog.txt too.
When i tried to uninstall it didn`t work, and now i don`t even have the apply mod/uninstall options. Something has gone wrong big time lol. But the wierdest thing is that it`s actually still working.

I could see myself losing the whole thing into space if i tried that one.
