Moving Forums

Hi again guys,

I am currently using "Blue101 / TinyPortal v.0.6.5 beta by Bloc" and "Powered by SMF 1.0.5."

The person that has been hosting my website and forums has decided to move all the info to a dedicated server(hosting website) This is fine by me, as I can do the latest upgrades etc.....

How do I get my current forums to go to the new server? If anyone can tell me how to do it I will greatly appriciate it!

The new panel is from beyondthegrave.biz, and it includes SMF latest version, so I dont anticipate it to be too hard, just I am still learing everything and would like to do it right and keep everyone and everyone's passwords during the change over to the new server.

If you have access to phpMyAdmin or something you'll need to do the database dump from there. If you do it from the SMF admin you will only get the SMF tables and not the TP tables. After your files have been moved all you need to do is export your database using phpMyAdmin (if you have it) and then import it after you've made the move.

As for upgrades, I would advise you to not upgrade to RC2 until TP 0.8x is out. Currently Bloc does not have a release for the beta testers that works with RC2. But you can update TP to 0.75 after your move though.

ok, have SMF 1.0.5 installed. Now fron there where do I go to pull everything from the old forums to the new? I think I messed up though......I installed the new forum to the directory /forum, which means that it took over the forums, so now how do I get everything that was on the old forums to the new?

Did you backup your database? And how did you do it? You just need to import the database.

well since the person that has my info on his server switched also I cannot access it via FTP which means when he gets back in a bit I will have to have him pull it from the old server......

This sucks, I should have installed the new one into a different name....oh well live and learn

If you still have the database on the same server all you need to do is point your forum to the old databse. If you made a backup of your files you can take a look in the Settings.php file to see what your database name and login info is.

I also had to do the upgrade to 1.0.6. Then I came here to download TP for that version of SMF and when I go to install it here is the error I get:

Install Actions for archive Tinyportal0_75.zip:
The package you are trying to download or install is either corrupt or not compatible with this version of SMF.

Bloc hasn't updated TP for 1.0.6 yet. You could actually do the manual install if you'd like. You can find the manual install thread in the beta testing forum. That might work.
