I seem to be missing something here.  I was under the impression that setting a given block to be shown only when viewing a particular article would show it when viewing that article.

Instead, I can't see the block at all until I remove that setting back to -none-.

Am I missing something obvious or is this a bug?  If I missed something in my search here, please be gentle and just point me to the correct thread?

Otherwise, if you're willing to help, please pm me for the site link and whatnot - this particular site isn't mine (I'm just building it) and isn't live - don't want it out on the open net yet.

Thanks!

Edit:

my apologies - I forgot about the new release.

I am running SMF 1.1.4 and TP 0.9.8.
Fresh install - no mods / themes
2 users - myself and my dad, who has not logged in - I created the account for him

I'm not getting any error messages - the block just isn't showing on the article page as I've set it to do.  Nothing in the error log except for a couple of entries where I forgot my password  :uglystupid2:

Please follow the posting guidelines. I understand if you don't want to give out the URL as yet, but with two quite different versions of TP out there, we really need to know which one you're using. Other information will help as well.

wow ... 100 views and only the one reply ... guess everyone's too busy playing with the new version ...

View count isn't indicative of actual views. Many of those will have been search engine spiders, I certainly haven't seen this topic.

We do still need more information, how the portal is set up, what options the front page and forum have.
Are panels set to display in the forum? A link to the site would help.

Sarcasm against the people that are here to help you will leed you nowhere.
Would have been a lot better to just apply what JP Deni asked you to.

With all due respect, no one has really offered to help - all they've done so far is ask vague questions that I don't know how to answer, or told me that I need to follow the posting guidelines.  To that, I did do what JP Deni asked me to do ... I looked at the posting guidelines linked in his/her signature and I edited my original post with the other details.  If using the template format will help, here it is:

Link to my site: See explanation below
SMF version: 1.1.4
TP version: 0.9.8.3
Theme name and version: Default
Mods installed: None
Related Error messages: None

I'm at a loss to explain my problem any more clearly than I did in my first post.  I have a block that I am trying to set as viewable only alongside one article.  Instead of working as (I think) intended, it is not displaying at all until I remove that setting completely.

------
To answer ZTN's questions: "how the portal is set up, what options the front page and forum have. Are panels set to display in the forum?"

The portal setup question is simply too vague and I don't know how to answer it beyond: it's installed, showing only the left panel.  I have 2 article categories and a total of 7 articles, including the default TP Welcome.  I have two blocks that I created to list the documents in two article categories, also using the User, Menu and Permissions default blocks.  Not sure what you're looking for there.

Since there are about 2 dozen possible answers to the front page and forum options questions, I have attached screenshots of the various sections that are related to this problem.  If the information you (generic anyone-who-reads-and-wants-to-help you) need isn't there, please tell me what section you need and I will post it.

The final question - yes, panels are set to display in the forum.
------

As I stated in my first post, I do not wish to toss the URL out on an open public page, but am willing to give it to anyone who is willing to take a look at it in person and help.  I'm even willing to give someone admin access to the backend to look at all of it ... since the site isn't live that is a risk I'm ok with.  No one has actually offered to help.

I feel I've been snipped at for invalid reasons ... I'll set that aside and chalk it up to late night / early morning posting and not fully reading posts.  My second post was not entirely sarcastic but *was* entirely frustration ... I know that often when a new release comes out, people are very busy with answering questions from it but I have seen many, many times where people using older software have gone unnoticed.

Well, im sorry you feel that way, but doing support on this site is not something we do for a living, we do this on free time and on free will.
If your not happy with that I cant help you.
Not like you are paying eather to get help  ;)

We help when and where we can, it's that simple, and the guidelines we have are there for a reason, thank youfor filling them up.But the guidelines also tells you to search and investigate your issues by your self to, not just posting your setup.
The issue you have have been posted twice just this week, and also added to the bugtracker. So you would have gotten an answer a lot faster by doing some small effort through search instead of waiting for us to hand it to you like waitresses  ;D

bloc

They should up on the listing of "education" category..do they do that?

Incidentally its TP 0.9.8..quite a few changes have been made to current version 1.0.5, for exactly these issues and more.

So you're saying that I should re-search daily to make sure that my issue hasn't been posted by someone else and answered in the time since I made my original post?

bleh ... I'm done ... this is a waste of my time.  I would like to thank Bloc for answering the question nicely and succinctly, and suggest that perhaps the people who "support" his software may need a few lessons in simple etiquette instead of ridiculing the people who depend on them to answer questions that they can't answer themselves.  I went thru all the hoops and got first ignored and then ridiculed ... I won't bother asking for help here again.

Yes we do infact want our members to look for some answers themselfs.
And the posts im talking about are older then your first post about the same issue.

And for what it's worth, we asked politly for you to add the info according to the posting guide, and youcame on to that reply that then ticked me off. If you have issues with how things are done or what we ask of our members i will not really loose any sleep over that, cause im not the one that need help and cant do some work my self to find it. Also im not the one batch how we answer or not in the second post of this forum. Maybe you are the one that need to take some sort of charm class and then come back with a better attitude  :D
