guest and articles

alright I did a search for a way to prevent guests from seeing some articles and found that prior to tp1 it was suggested several times to use if $context ['user']['guest'] and after tp1 .... well there is nothing I found in searches
I attepemted to do the following

made two categories  told one it could only be seen by guests and told the other it could be seen by everyone but guests

made 1 article in each category and told them both to show on front page and set neither to featured.

front page only ever showed the logged in one.

anyone know why?

so I attempted to make two front page blocks for article categories set one to show one category and one to show the other category and removed the permissions from the categories.
told one block to only show to guests and the other to only show to logged in people.
now front page shows nothing.

any suggestions.

Alright I'm starting to think this is more of a bug than a support issue so Ill elaborate what I have tried and include pictures.
First I have a category called logged that is supposed to show to everyone BUT guests.


In that category I put an article, called thank you for logging in. and set it to show on the front page.


I set the front page to only show articles


but when I log out and am considered a guest I still see "Thank you for logging in".

when you edit the article what membergroups do you have checked for that single article ?

"Allow guests to see news from the news board - even if guest are not allowed to see the board?" - on or off? It might be that.

I don't find anywhere to set member groups for articles.

and I just tried to change the allow guests to see news and it didn't work

also I just noticed that my front page is now called Fpage (the name of the category that is supposed to be showing)

It should do that. This might be a bug though, I will try to reproduce it and see what happens.

The fix ( if any) will be in the update package, and as always, we cant say or give a time limit

...alright let me put it this way was it determined that it was a bug or am I still doing something wrong.
