Open Source Forum Software

I wondering if anybody knows of a free open source php forum software that I can download and modify and then redistribute.
I found a few under GNU GPL V3 but is that a license that I should look for?
I want one as simple as possible. I mean really from scratch with only the basics.
I got ideas and I want to put them in use.

I should look at it now, haha.
But that's a little too heavy for me.

I guess I'll start from something small. Or just start from scratch.
I want to make something I can gladly call my own.

Even with GNU/GPL software, you cannot call the software your own creation.
Best bet is to start from scratch.

I'm starting on the installation file and the config file.
