I recently downloaded SMF and got a forum up.  Im not wanting to get a portal up.  I downloaded the TP files now unsure what to do.  Do I upload them with ftp into the forum files?  Or do I create a whole new folder named "portal"

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Install via SMF's built in Package Manager as you would with any mod.

You install it through the SMF package manager. That can be found in the SMF admin area.

beefie, remember anytime you come to a forum there are a few things you should do. For your reference here they are:
1. Search the Documentation - we have a board here for our Docs.
2. Use the search feature of the forum - find similar answers to the same question.
3. Follow the posting guidelines. - Stickied in the support board. This is perhaps the most important one, as it will most likely answer your questions, and also answer our questions that we have for you.

Also, make sure you post in the appropriate board or your question may go unnoticed.

Im not wanting to get a portal up.

If you dont want to have a portal, why are you asking about what to do with the files ?
If you dont want a postal, dont do anything with the files you downloaded as they ARE for the portal.
