The same thing has happened to me twice. Since your site is new and you do not have a lot of content, just remove SMF from your database and start over with a fresh install of SMF. Then add TP and all should be good.

:)

should I skip anything to do with UTF8 this time?

I deleted everything, blew away the database.  Installed SMF with all default options then went right in and added tinyportal.  Again, I had to create a world-writable directory named "temp" in the Packages directory in order to install the package.  After successful install, I clicked on the 'reset your forum' link again (which does nothing but go to the main page) and still see no portal.  I attached a screenshot of the admin so you can see it's installed but there's no tinyportal admin section.

What would I see on the filesystem to tell me this was truly installed properly?

This has happened to several other members, it has nothing to do with languages, UTF-8, ISO...
There are several posts around the site that illustrate the same problem.

One member did want to do some experiments which was a good idea in theory, he didn't get the fact that it had nothing to do with the topic I started, but insisted on using that topic.. then when asked, started a new topic only to keep referencing the same thing.

It's a rare problem, but not unknown. With the language problem, you will see the TP Admin box, but it's empty. With the problem you have, there is no sign of the box, or TP. I had a problem with a mod, Ultimate Shoutbox which caused my TP Admin box to vanish.. when I upgraded the forum, it returned.

A manual installation might work, I suggest going through the Manual Installation Guide in the docs and checking that all the files are installed and the edits made to the SMF files that need editing.

I'll see what I can find, if I don't get back with anything.. might be worth searching yourself.

Now I am getting an error when I try to reinstall.  There's actually a handful and they all look like this:

2: opendir(/hsphere/local/home/dfk/bloodlustklan.com/Packages/temp/Themes): failed to open dir: No such file or directory
File: /hsphere/local/home/dfk/bloodlustklan.com/Sources/Subs-Package.php

For the last time.
You have no way to get ths to work UNLESS you do the install MANUALLY to your forum.

We have several posts and also the docs to guide you in what you have to do.

4 steps.
1 download and extract the manuall install package
2 upload the files to the same dir as the forum folders and files
3 make all the code edits manually to the smf files
4 point the browser to the file called (manual_tp_install.php

All this to no other theme then default core and with the english ISO language

There are no shortcuts, there are no simpler way.

No thanks, I'll wait for it to work before I start using it.

Unless you switch hosting companies, it probably will never work on the package install for you.

When this contract expires, I am going to look for another host for sure.  Do you know specifically why my host is causing this problem?
