Moving Site Later

I currently have an established site. I want to use tiny portal and smf as my main site, but first i want to setup tiny portal the way I want before using as my main site.

My plan is to setup tiny portal and smf in its own folder. When I have it setup the way I want, I want to move it to the root.

Is this feasible and if so, are there any instructions on how to do this.

Setting up a test site is something that you should do in any case so that you can try out new themes, code or whatever you are thinking about adding to your 'live' site.

I've done it the way you are wanting to in the past but eventually learned that its generally better to rebuild what you have in your live site (IMHO) and it's not hard to do once you learn how to.

Do a search here and on SMF for reinstall issues and you should find lots of good information on how to proceed.

More or less easy if you make the testsite as an exact copy of your main site ( same versions of the software and mods)

The move it self to another dir is not so hard, it's just a matter of changing all the urls with the help of repair_settings.php from simplemachines.org

I have a few more questions if you don't mind.

I have been studying the download area and your forum, but I'm a little confused about themes

1. Can I download a theme from smf site and tiny portal will adapt to that theme?

or

2. Do I need a theme that was written for both tiny portal and smf?


Sorry if the questions are basic,,,,,but the more I read the more confused I became.

I like the Dilber theme on smf site at:

But I'm not sure if I install that theme if it will work with tiny portal. Any help would be appreciated.

it must be a "tp" theme if you use the smf/tp software.. hope this helps, if not, post back

I saw a tiny portal site that uses the Dilber theme. Maybe it was an older version of tiny portal and smf, but it really looked nice. I searched and looked, but did not find the Dilber theme for the current versions of TP/SMF.

Just to be sure I'm not searching or looking in the wrong place, do you know if the Dilber theme is available for the current TP/SMF?

I'm still a little confused on themes. When I look here:

it seems themes are broken down by software. Are the ones that say SMF themes for smf/tp. If not, where do I find themes for smf/tp?

What default themes come with TP?

Any theme that you wish to use must be coded for TinyPortal when TP is installed to your forum.

When you go to the download page look for a text download link down below where the download button is... the text link will be for the TP enabled version. ( it will have "_tp" in the file name)
Please note that some themes are now being written to work both ways... SMF only and SMF/TP, for those there will only be one download and after you install the theme you'll need to turn on TP support in your Admin>Current Theme panel.

EDIT: ... look in the Themes section and you'll find lots of free themes as well as some that are paid.
