Wasn't sure if this was a SMF or TP issue, but SMF is currently down ...

Anyways, the banner/news section of a theme, only shows up for members if I give them the permission to edit news. Why is this? Even if you don't login, you can see the news ...

What am I missing here?

Thanks

lebisol

it could be the theme...or the news boards.
if it is "smf native news" then...

Please read our posting guide we have for the support board, we need you to place the correct information in order to help you a lot faster.
And for your info, SMF site is working just fine.

At the time of this post, SMF's site was in fact down.

What is your url? www.importantworkstuff.com
What error message do you get? None. Simply that the news banner does not show up unless either you are a guest or you have "edit news" permissions.
What version of SMF? 1.1.4
What version of TP? 0.98
Which themes are used? Azure is main theme used
Do you have other Mods installed? YouTube BBC Tag (XHTML Compliant),     SMF Gallery Lite, Integrated Chat, User Email System, Wikipedia BBCode (English),     Enhanced Calendar,     Color Bar,     RSS Feed Poster, SMF 1.1.2 Update Package, SMF 1.0.11 / 1.1.3 Update, SMF Arcade, Ad Managment, SMF 1.0.12 / 1.1.4 / 2.0 b1.1 Update, Fix Message Empty Error For Embed Video Mods, Auto Embed Video Clips,  Permission Mod
Do you use another CMS? (Joomla or Mambo?) No
Is this a test site? No

lebisol

1.then it has to be something to do with your permission mod or the permission settings on news...
2. theme has a wrong condition set right arround news code
if (!empty($settings['enable_news']))

mrbean17

Minus the permission to "edit news" what else is there? Why would they need permission to edit to view it?

lebisol

if you change the theme to default do you have this issue?anything in error log?
if not then this is smf and/or mod permission issue....

mrbean17

Very odd ... I guess it was just one user ... I created a test account, and put him in each different member group and it works without issue in both IE and FF.

Oh well, thanks anyways!
