Trouble installing TP- mod-apply won't proceed

I uploaded TP with no problems, then I get this

Some of the files this package needs to modify are not writable. This needs to be changed by logging into FTP and chmoding the files. 

I enter my ftp info (and chmoded all the files) but when I click proceed it doesn't and I get this error in my log

8: Undefined index: forum_width_middle
File: /hsphere/local/home/username/mysite.com/forum/Themes/default/languages/Modifications.english.php (eval?)

I don't know if it's an issue with TP, SMF, or what.   I tried installing manually, but I got the same error.

Can anyone help?

Nevermind.  I found the cure on SMF- just added a temp file.
