I would like to have a navigation ability to navigate to a single forum category per page, in stead of to a page where all the categories appear simultaneously.

Virtually it must look like you have various forums, in stead of one single forum. However, physically it must remain a single SMF instance.

I thought it could work as follows:

TinyPortal as the Home Page/Front Page
Then seperate tabs with each forum name, e.g. Science Forum, Sport Community, Junior Forensics. The different tabs are then actually seperate SMF categories.

Or is there something else available that runs different SMF forums, but integrated admin, single sign-on, stats?

Hmmm ....

Some pages will need more than one category - especially when the categories relate to a single concept.

Maybe its better to create a Multiple SMF Forum mod, but one admin, stats, single sign-on.

You'd get more of a response at SMF in the mods section for this. It really is a SMF mod and not a TP mod. And please post in the suggestions or support boards as this isn't feedback that you are posting.

Interesting.

SMF responded by stating SMF is a FORUM, not a PORTAL. I should rather ask here at TinyPortal.

I get a feeling I'm running into my first frustrations for going the Open Source route?

I didn't say it was something that you needed to ask SMF. I said its something you needed to ask someone to do a mod for at SMF as you'll get more exposure for what you want there. Glad you found what you want though.

Hairy

This is something I want but checking out that site there seems to be a few bugs with that mod still.

You need a SMF mod for this. Typically called a "multi-site" mod. However, no one has created it, although it's been repeatedly asked.

I think SMF is the only major forum software that doesn't have this mod lying around somewhere.

What's nice about the Multi-Site Mod I mentioned, is that you can participate at that site to improve, stabilize and upgrade the mod.

My administrator has not installed the mod yet, but I like how it works on the site. It does the basics I need. But lets see what happens when I install it.
