Close to give up TP installation now :(

kracken

I've tried installing TP via mod install in the SMF admin interface on two different servers now (Servage.net and my own Centos 4 dedicated server). Both saying everything went fine (after disabling safemode and all that). But still no TP gets installed, I just get the ordinary SMF look. Found out that TPortal.php wasn't even in place, why does the SMF mod install report all went fine? :-\

So I tried a manually install on my dedicated server, did everything according to the manual install instructions. Now I get reports about "parse error, unexpected T_STRING" all over the place, I used Notepad++ to edit the relevant files.

I find these problems really strange as I believe I should be able to install php apps/script since I've been carrying out this kind of procedures with other scripts numerous times before.

Is there a fail-safe/idiot-safe way to install TP? A help would be ready-made files to manually replace existing ones instead of editing them by hand. Or even better, a full SMF+TP package to install from scratch.

Just FYI I'm trying with a clean install of SMF 1.1.4 and TP 0.9.8.3.

Any ideas?

Ken.

kracken, don't give up because it's really not that hard to do... you just need to take your time and follow the directions carefully.

And, yes it is easy to mess up if you are not careful, I trashed an install yesterday by copying extra data into one of my file edits.
Ended up redoing the whole thing twice before I discovered what was being done incorrectly.

As for pre-made file, we can't do that because we are not supposed to be redistributing SMF files.

Make sure your file permissions are set correctly and give it another try.
Also do a search and you'll find lots of info on install issues that you may find helpful to you in your efforts.

The reason we do not have the ready made files is because it is against the smf policy to distribute any of the smf files.  I can help you with this if you would like for me to.  Feel free to pm me a temp admin login to the forum  ftp url and login info.
