I have looked everywhere for something on this. Perhaps I don't know what to look for because I came up empty-handed.

With the Download Manager I have already uploaded a large file to the "tp-downloads" directory. It is 72MB.

I created a new "upload" for it and told it not to upload anything just create empty.

I put the file name - just the file name into the "browse" box and then saved. Now I do have a page but the DOWNLOAD button downloads nothing, doesn't see the file in the folder I've already uploaded.

What am I doing wrong? I can't upload this file via the server - failed 3 times already doing it through the browser. Is there no other way?

by the way - if I try to click the FTP button I get a FORBIDDEN error page saying I don't have permission to access this on this site.

Help... help... help

If you get a forbidden error when clicking the FTP tab, check the properties of the tp-downloads folder. The CHMOD needs to be at least 644, preferably 755.

Make sure your host allow big files upload/download through the php server.
If they do, make sure the timelimit for the file dl/ul through php is long enough for big files.
Also last, check so the tp-downloads folder have the correct permissions set (777)

Hello All,

Quick question now that I've spoken to the Tech Support of my hosting company. They are not seeing a problem on the server side with the FTP button not working. The Error page I get says

403 ERROR FORBBIDDEN

Forbidden
You don't have permission to access /zforum/index.php on this server.

Is there perhaps something in the index.php file that needs to be tweaked?

That error is exactly the kind of error you get when you have server issues

Make sure all your files are up to date, and that your DB is updated correctly.
How to update the SMF db you have a big help section on simplemachines.org

Ok... here's what I got back from tech support...

I asked them to go into it again and have a look. They wrote this back:

QuoteSorry, I cannot figure out why it generates “403 error”. I checked your files/folders permissions and all was looking good. The problem seems to be related to your PHP code itself.
Are there some special requirements for PHP software you use?
Probably all we need is to activate/deactivate some PHP modules or values.
Please advise.

So the question is - since I don't write .php code, is there anything in the files associated to the Download's Manager that isn't turned on by default that perhaps my host tech support needs to turn on? I realize I don't even know what I'm talking about - but thought it is worth a try.

I wonder if your PHP is running a little strict on permissions. Perhaps after uploading the file its not working because of owner ship. Have your host change the ownership to apache, and then chmod it the same as the other files. I think 755 is ok. If that works, that will tell you that its permissions on your server.

Ask your host what your "upload_max_filesize" is in your php.ini, and there is another setting for the amount of time allowed. I can't remember teh name for it.

I believe it is a php setting, most likely something you need to ask your host about.

andimac

Ichbin I will pass what you said on to the tech's and see what comes back on that.

On your question Xarcell the max PHP upload value is 10M. The max value for FTP is 2G. They didn't give a time limit of any kind.
