Hello people,
Been away from web design for yrs now and sort of miss working with photoshop and converting other peoples themes just is not as fun process as it is giving birth to something unique. (no disrespect).

I see that there is a lot of dark-gamer-community-orineted themes and designs floating around and I can understand how tp.smf.community go together being how I am old gamer myself...

So my question is what people like these days besides above mentioned?
Is it clean-css-few warm colors less-images feel?....is it tabs?....glass/xp/osX look?...rounded edges?...abstracts?..flash?...dhtml/compact-flyout menues and sections?....full-page graphics?

I know that content of of the site drives the look but generally speaking what makes you go " :coolsmiley: ooo I like this, I wonder how my TP would look with this look"

Of course, all this is with TP templates in mind.

All the "in" stuff now-a-days..

Tabs, Active, Selected Link, Header == "Rounded" Footer== "Rounded" | NOt your Typical smf Default Theme Layout, cool graphics, icons & et-ceteras..

I kinda figured that tabs are back, it is sooo nice to see that css support in browsers has improved over the yrs.

stylish tabs, buttons
use of beautiful icons
board category to be seen on all pages

Fast loading pages.. not overly bogged down with every snippet and mod thrown in for good measure.
I visit many sites, some are very slow to load (mine included at times).

Clean looking.. it's still a forum after all, the content and member interaction important.
Some dark themes work well, others.. not so well.

Navigation simple and easy to find those features I hide away.
Buttons, Tabs.. it makes no difference to me.. If it works well in the theme, I'm happy with either.
All sites are different and each take time to get to know.. members eventually work out where everything is.. I like to keep my members up to date with any changes.

The addition of TinyPortal turns many sites into an adventure playground.. I find it to be an enhancement where I can add the useful features.


As for game orientated sites... While they often look great, I personally find some are way over designed.. thats just my tastes.
