I've seen a few sites that were using SMF and TP but now they've jumped to Vbulletin like Path to Peace, etc.

Yeah well to each his own I guess.   Everyone has there own preferences.   TO me I love smf/tp  I could not imagine using any other forum software.    And one thing you must also remember.  smf is not that old of a software.  All the great advances they have made have been made in just a few short years.     Just my $0.0.2

If I remember right didn't path to peace have more than one forum, and one was smf/tp.

I love SMF/TP myself.

Don't know if they had 2 forums but the one I saw, they were using Vbulletin.

SMF will be the only forum software for me. How long has Vbulletin been around?

vBulletin is from the stone ages. vB and phpBB have been around for many years. Not sure how old, but they are the oldest of them. Aku's path-to-peace site changed because his members bitched and moaned about liking vB better. Their loss IMO.

vB n phpBB are here for arround 5 years AFIAK.

There's forum/portal software *other* than SMF/TP?

Dragooon

Yes there are.
MKportal is a well known portal. But I think TP goes the best as it is specifically is designed for SMF Only.
And there are other forums to. I tried 7 myself, I had a First sight love with SMF lol.

I am pretty impressed with SMF/TP.

Firstly it comes at the right price (Especially for a Not-For-Profit organisation), the flexibility of the packages is top notch and there are lots of people will to help you set your site up (even when you know bugger all about coding).

My vote is for SMF/TP. It rocks!!!
