Article Categories Box

I would guess this has been covered but I did a search and didn't find an answer to it.  My question is how would I create a box that would dynamically list the just article categories and maybe a tree that drops down to the sub-article-categories.  Please let me know.  Thanks!

A tree (linktree) can be found in the block code and snippets board. Dont remember the name of it though, but some reading in the block code and snippet index post might leed you in the right direction.

Or (no tree function) you can create a category block and link to your articles from it.

Being a newby I am still digesting what you just said.  I guess I need somebody to hold my hand and walk me accross the street.

Maybe I really need someone walk me accross the street.  I went there and didn't see anything.  Please let me know if I missed it.  I thought this would be a normally used snippit.  It seems standard to be to have a category and subcategory list.  Something like oscommerce that lists the categories for articles instead of products.

If you're trying to have a list of the categories you need to create a catbox type of block.

I have tried.  Is there a tutorial in doing this.  I guess I just figured that there would be a simple way to list all off article categories.  All I can come up with is listing the article with the category. What I am trying to do is just list all of the article categories.

Admin > TinyPortal > manage blocks > Add new left/right/center block > Choose "Catbox" > Hit submit and call it a day.

I did exactly that and it lists the articles.  All I want is the categories and maybe the subcategories.

ahhh I see. I don't think anything has been made for this yet. Sorry for taking so long to grasp what you were saying. If I get some time I'll see if I can't right up a little code snippet that will list the categories.
