Is there a way to change forum URL?

Hello, I have been using SMF and TP for about six months now and love it! I have tried out several other  and frankly, for someone whom has only just started working with php, this has been the best.

I have recently just redone our site, and have the main site set up using SMF and TP. However, what I am wondering is is it possible to change the default forum url from http://mysite.com/index.php?action=forum to http://mysite.com/forum ?

I am not sure if this is possible at all, at least not with out installing a completey new instance of smf  in another folder using the same mysql database. But if it is possible to change the URL's, does anyone know how to do this? And if so, are you willing to share that knowledge with me?

On aside note, I did check out Pretty URL's and that was not quite what I was looking for, though that would work out well for posts. I am not sure if it works with articles though, since I did not have any on the test site when i tried that one out.

Bah! sadly, I was just told that this does not work with TP and I would need to uninstall it first. I dont think that is what I want to do however. Ah well, I will find something else to work with it then, somehow.

You dont need to uninstall anything, just copy all the files from where you have the forum installed, and upload them to the forum folder and then point the settings to the new direction.
No need to change, uninstall or delete anything.

And also be sure to run the repair_settings.php after the move to correct all the paths for the forum.

Ah, yes that I know of, though using TP i wanted to keep the front page at http:myseite.com and then change the url only for the forum page itself.

But if i do go that route, what cms would you recomend for an easy front end admin/edit and fairly back end design/content modification? I have seen a lot use Joomla, (though have also seen a bit of difficulty with the bridge here and on the other forum.) I have also looked at other such things as zoops and mombo.

Main thing is something I can change to my theme and have it work well, and where my users share the same database. Main thing is, I would like to get away from doing just html/java and uploading the site via ftp. The reasion for this is because I am getting old and would like to eventualy hand the site over to one of our members eventualy.

Okay, so here is a question.. is there a way to turn off the forum on one instance of tp/smf? I do not know if that is possible at all.. though I could just hide or change the link of course on the "front page" hehe

Can't say I've had a lot of experience with other CMS's. But from what I've seen they aren't easy to use like TP. If I had to go with one I would probably stick with Mambo or Xoops just because they are integrating well with SMF according to the SMF bridge developer.

As for your question, I don't know of anyway to turn off a forum. Especially within TP. TP uses the SMF functions and permissions in a lot of ways to do things. Turning off the forum would make TP not work.
