Latest TinyPortal Front Page

If you are doing a survey, as user feedback- I like the previous front page better than the current one. That does not mean I am saying the old one was better than the current one, but I prefer it to the current one..

I think it's in with the TP 1.0 Alpha updates, though I'm just assuming that.

Can you elaborate on what you don't like about it.. or what you prefer about the "old" layout?

The "old layout" gave me the last 10 posts, "Bam" as Emeril would say, right there as soon as I came to the domain. The last 5 or 6 News items were also there.
Now I have to enter forum and go to the bottom to see the most recent posts, and at, that there are only the last 5.
It was the the immediacy of seeing the last 10 posts that would draw me back maybe 10 times a day. From those links I have been able to improve my TP installation and teach myself "mucho".

You can still make blocks to do that.  It has a default recent posts block that I dont like much so I use a different one.

A user can no longer, at a quick glance upon arriving at  http://www.tinyportal.co.uk  gauge how active the site is or has been.
I feel for such an active and helpful web site, getting the 10 most recent posts as soon as your arrived was great.

I am still using TP 0.9.6beta  and it serves me very well.
I do have a test site using the latest version of TP with the latest version of SMF but I use that only to help me understand how to install some newer mods on my older version of TP and SMF.

I usually just refresh the unread posts link instead of going to the frontpage as well.

i must agree with marzi, the old design was much better. the new one looks so "blogg-a-like" - the pictures are very nice, but i miss the last posts ...

Thats the beauty of tinyportal, the frontpage layout is something Bloc have made himself for this site, you however can make it diffrent in any way you want it to show on your site/s
It's not a "premade" page, so you can pretty much change it to what you want when you make your own frontpages.
For this site i think it looks good and have the basics and must know things shown for easy view.
Latest topics are shown in the forum and the block to your left. There is no reason to have the latest topics show up everywhere

Its true..right now its more "blog-like" or "news-like"..its really meant to show the changed layout of frontpage articles and forum posts in TP 1.0. The former was just one php page really, with those functions in for good measure.

But its ever evolving lol, so I will prob. add back the latest posts, as I liked them. It would be appropiate then to make use of "sticky" articles which i am working on, they will always show after the main featured one.
