oneway

I have 1.1.3 and 0.98 with Neptune Theme.

I want to use BBC or preferably html in Personal Text in Members' Profile. I've increased the length from 50 to 500 and then thought that changing:

$context['member']['blurb'] to parse_bbc($context['member']['blurb']) would do the trick, but it hasn't. With those changes the section in Profile.template.php is now:

// Personal text...
echo '
<tr>
<td width="40%"><b>', $txt[228], ': </b></td>
<td><input type="text" name="personalText" size="50" maxlength="500" value="', parse_bbc($context['member']['blurb']), '" /></td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td colspan="2"><hr width="100%" size="1" class="hrcolor" /></td>
</tr>';

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks!

perhaps doUBBC() is what you are looking for?

Hi IB and thanks. I presumed you meant me to replace "parse_bbc" with "doUBBC". Did that and no change.

What's surprising is that when I put, say, bold round a word and save, when the Profile page comes back it's changed bbc code to html!!! But that doesn't work either...

I'm really amazed that this is so difficult to do. Here's this wonderful nice space where members could write about themselves, put a graphic, etc. - but we can't get it to accept any code! *frustrated*

Well there's a good reason for that oneway. Text input boxes are the #1 place to hack a site with. So SMF is very thorough about cleaning all the input from users. I would suggest asking at SMF as this is really beyone most of the people here including me. :)

Hi good friend, point well taken - I'd not thought to consider the dangers of html there! However, I'm perfectly happy with bbc code for this, which I think is relatively safe, and SMF already uses bbc in the Sig section, so I'm gonna stick to my original contention that this is a very useful area on the forum that is not being used, when it really could and should be.

I've been to SMF, but no one is answering me! So last night, I spent at least 2 hours searching and reading stuff there for help, and basically found nothing. However, maybe all is not lost. I finally (and accidentally) found a Mod that I've used before which, if I remember correctly, effectively sets up this area so that you CAN use bb code there (not the actual intention of the Mod). I'll be getting it and checking this. *is determined to get this dang area working, lol* I'll report back here as to the ultimate result.

Thanks again!
