How to get started?

Hi,

I seen the download link on the home page.

Is this something I can download and then play around with or do I have to download it and install it like a mod to use it?

I am looking at using TP to replace my home page.

Is this how TP is used?

For example my home page is at ApplianceJunk.com/index.php
My forums are at ApplianceJunk.com/forums

Were would TP get put?

I am thinking it becomes part of the forums so I would see TP being used when I go to ApplianceJunk.com/forums but not at ApplianceJunk.com/index.php

Is that correct?

If so what gets done with my /index.php?

its like a mod for youre forum, so youre tp link would be in the forum dir.
You should put a redirect code in youre index.php file.

TinyPortal is installed through your SMF package manager and will add a 'front' page to your forum as well as lots of other functions that you can use to enhance your site. (like blocks & articles)
You can see lots of examples in the Showcase boards.

As for making the TinyPortal front page show as the 'home' page of your site, just do as mentioned by nuva and place a redirect to that page on your server.

Sounds Great!

So for now I can just leave my home page a /index.php like it is.
Download and install TP like I would any other mod for SMF.

Once installed do I have the option to turn TP on and off so I can display my forums with or without TP or once it's installed you have to use it.

What I would like to do is play around with TP in the background and if it works ok for me and I get it to look the way I want then make it live so visitors to our site will see it in use too.

If you go ahead with the install TP won't be visible in your default theme. You'll have to manual add the edits to that theme.
