How easy is it to personalize a forum

I was wondering if I could get input on how to personalize a forum to match the design of the website?

I am currently redesigning one of my sites and am not yet an expert in PHP and forum design .. 

and how do you add the spell checker .. I LOVE IT

It's all dependant on how code savy you are in some instances. For others it may be graphics/color ideas. It really is completely up to you on how personalized you make your forum. Making your own theme is probably the hardest thing you could do with SMF though. Spell checker is something that needs to be installed with PHP. Contact your host and ask them about pspell.

I am fairly code savvy .. I do my  own web design and maintenance. I have some experience in css and Linux, HTML, htm,xhtml and am a very fast learner.

My host is a friend, but we are about at the same level with PHP and I wish to do this myself ... If the code is posted somewhere or how to .... I can sort the rest out.

As for the spell checker .. yours is the 1st forum I have found it on and would like to add to my forum ..

If you use Internet explorer try http://www.iespell.com/ for a free spell checker for your browser. It's an excellent little add-on too!
