MySQL growing too much per day

My SQL table for TP is growing at a meg or two a day.  I have a 100 mb limit from my host per table and I was wondering what to do to reduce the size of this table.

To try and help my problem, on the admin side of TP, I went to forum maintenance, optimized the tables, emptied out unimportant logs and recounted all forum stats.  But that did not help.

What can I do (and how as I am unfamiliar with MYsql admin stuff) inside of MYsql to empty out unimportant things.

You can limit the amount of pm's users can have, limit the size of images, avatars, and attachments...also maybe use offline services like imageshack instead of hosting the images on your server.

What is growing in the tables for TP?

My board had a problem like this, an uncompressed sql file was over 250MB. We found that one database table [your SMF prefix]_sessions, was huge. What it appeared to contain was mostly session info from spiders. We emptied the table and no members complained, so we now empty it regularly.

Also, check the error log. If its has many entries, removing those will help too.

In general, use the maintenace controls, empty "unimportant data" regularly and empty error log often(if its anything in them).

The biggest table usually though, is the messages table..and thats harder to shrink lol.

Weird, without doing anything inside of MySQL, my table shrunk 18 MB just from doing forum maintenance.   Thanks for all of the replies, that helped alot.

how do i empty the session table ? And is it safe to do so ? 

I dont know how big this table is but when i use forum maintanence this table is always the one with most Kb optimized ?? I dont even know why i use database driven sessions.. i think someone said it was the best thing to use ??

Edit: Just found my way into phpmyadmin and the session table is not very big at all.. i guess forum maintenence empty this board alright.. great 

My biggest tables are SMF_Messages and SMF_log_topics So i guess everything is cool  :coolsmiley:

The sessions problem doesn't happen on all servers. When Our-Local.co.uk was hosted on a 1&1 server we didn't have a problem, the problem started when we moved to another host.
