Hey, I'm new to the SMF community in general. I've got a lot of questions especially since it's my first time running a MySQL-uploaded SMF forums. I also would like to use the TinyPortal mod you guys have made because it is very resourceful and I could get a lot of benefits from using it.

I would like to point our that some of these questions may have been posted before or I have seen but I'm going to post them here again for a couple of reasons. 1. I'm a lazy individual and I didn't feel like browsing the dozens of pages of posts to find the particular one I need and the search wasn't being... Search-i-ness? 2. The certain ones I found did not give clear directions. I am a quick learner when it comes to this stuff so I process most of the tings you say, however, some things you may say don't really make... sense. :uglystupid2: Personal opinion though; I can be dumb sometimes. I would just like the answers of my questions to be posted clearly (somewhat like a good tutorial). That's all I ask.

I hope you guys can answer these. Please be as thorough and clear as you can. I just want to make sure that when I get this down correctly, I can pass on the useful information you have given me. Here we go:

1.) When coming to rank images, I'm going to go ahead and design my own custom ranks images with The GIMP. Now, what I would like to know is where can I upload these images into my ranks (database?). Is there a tool in the Admin Control Panel that allows me to do this or do I need to add it to a particular file through my FTP database?

2.) With the TinyPortal modification, how do I get the boxes that I add to the center, right, and left panes to show up? I did this with the Wiki-style theme and I would check all my settings to make sure the boxes would show up but they never did. I activated, etc. I got frustrated because the Wiki-style seemed like it required a lot of attention for me to modify it. Considering that I am a beginner at MySQL  (in general), that wasn't what I really needed to start myself off so I'm trying the Simplicity theme at the moment.

3.) Since I did bring up the subject of Wiki-style, I would like to know how to change the Logo in the top left corner. I went into the stylesheet via SM forums and ever change to a line I tried to make wouldn't work. I know you had mentioned some PDF file (I think that was the name) that contained the image that I could modify; I'm not sure. This goes to the stylesheet in general. How do I just change the complete theme? Do I have to got to the file directly? If so, how do I do that?

4.) As I mentioned before, I don't know how to get the boxes set up correctly :buck2: but with the front page blocks (which is the one I could actually get going), how to I design the sitemap to go to each board? Or do I have to switch between going to each forum, grab the link, go to the menubar, paste the link and make a new one? That's a who lot of time involved; I don't want to feel like an idiot if there was a quicker way to do it...

I'll probably have more questions so I'll continue to post in this topic so it doesn't look like I'm spamming all over the place  :D

I enjoy the support that you guys give because your one of the few communities that actually help well. I appreciate your time to look at and answer this post. I hope you have answers anyways.

Thank you!

1. You replace the images with your own through FTP.
Rigthclick the images in your browser and the browser tells you the path to the image you want to replace.

2. TP Admin that will show up in your SMF admin.

3. The same as question one. replace the existing with your own through FTP

4. Use the search on this site and read in the block code and snippets bioard, Lazy wont get you anywhere here im affraid ;) And we dont want to build your site for you, thats your part of using the free software we offer.

So it's best to say directly at this point, that if you have questions we know have been answerd several times before, you have to use the search and investigate for your self on how to use TP.
The DOC section have the basics on how to do things, and the forum and block code and snippets have the answers on how to get things to work in what block.
You are your own siteownder, so you have to work on your site by your self, we do not do that for you.
Good Luck  :)

Thank you for the reply, I'll have to get to work on those. And I totally agree. The best way for me to learn is to do it on my own but professional help is always appreciated :P I'm only lazy to a degree by the way ;)

Your answer to number 2: Like I mentioned before, I know what you mean by the TP admin. That's what I was talking about as far as setting up the blocks. When I would set one up (let's say the left pane block) they wouldn't show up. I would go through options looking for a solution and I would make sure any settings that would had the blocks were set to "show". I'm just at a loss really...

When you make a block you then have to turn it on by changeing it form red to green in the ADMIN - Bloc Manager find the new block it hsould have a red circle next to it them click the green on to turn it on this post in for the default theme I do not have other themes installed but if your theme does not work or is not designed to use blocks then they wont show

I figured as much. But I was using Wikistyle so, I'm not to sure as far as compatibility. I do know however on both the simplicity and the Wikistyle themes, I'm not getting the red and green buttons. Just simple text "[activate]" and "[deactivate]"

The thing about those is that I don't know when one is active or inactive.

Hey G6, since you can do this in about 15 minutes and im heaps sick if i was to give you the files needed to manual install, could you please add the nessesary things into the files for me plitty please?

i know you will ignore me because of our convo months ago, but i never really mean to hurt anybody, the internet is a hard place to make friends you know, much harder than RL for me..

Also, i trust you with all my heart, but are there any files you need to edit that has my database info in it if you where to help me?

Hey, I'm back again :) I've got things running now. I've got a new questions though.

I really don't like the name of the subforums to be called "childboards" it's weird. Is there a line or something I need to change for that? I'm currently using the Cerberus theme and if anyone does know where that can be changed in that particular theme, please tell me where and what line! I would totally appreciate it.

Lesmond

If you had done a search on SMF, you would have found this ;)

tick

LOOk in the /Themes/default/languages/index.english.php and you can see where the subforums is named childboards.  change it to what ever you like.

edit:  you beat me les.  LOL
