featured article and front page blocks

i am having problems getting this feature to work

i have selected to use the featured article and font page blocks so they all load. I have a featured article which is showing up okay but I also have 1 front page block. they are not showing up.  Any idea why?

the article is set to show on the front page.

Try turning off the featured part of the article and see if that works.

i turned off the article and created frontpage blocks.  They are working fine.
