Articles vs posts: uncomfortable distinction

I'd like to be able to designate a forum post as an "article" and, by contrast, to move "articles" into a forum after they've been used. That way, my content is much easier to manage and more flexible.

On my forum we have a board on which members occasionally post what essentially are articles. I'd like to feature those on the front page just by clicking "convert to article." Conversely, after an article has been run, I'd like a button that says "move to xxxx board."

Thanks.

The idea is good..but theres is quite some things involved..one thing is the use of html in an article, which posts do not allow. A conversion would  mean a html-to-UBBC part, which might take longer to write than all of TP.. :) At least if you want to retain the look of the article. From post to article - no problem, but other way around: harder.

I will however, make it possible to assign a thread to a article, so that they follow each other(until you delete it).

There will also be options to use articles with just UBBC code - in that case your request would be managable codewise. :)

where are posts filtered for html? Upon submission, or everytime they are showed?  Cuz it seems like you could shoot the article over to the forum  if html is filtered on submission only.

I, too, am looking for this kind of functionality.  I want to post articles that will show on the front page, that are also the start of a thread in an appropritate board.  Actually possibly two boards: a catchall article/news board, and a relevant board.

TP is cool, thanks for your time,

Upon submission. It will remove any tables and divs etc..so the result is poor. Better would be to construct the article from UBBC tags to begin with.

I feel it would be more valuable to be able to transform articles to posts and vice versa than it is to have html codes available for articles. In fact, the html-ing of articles is inconsistent with the coding the board accepts, so there's confusion there at the outset.

I really wish smf itself would just use html to be standard.

The problem with that is the script kiddies who find some sort of code that will jack up your forum. Hence, the reason why HTML should be turned off for forums.
