Out of curiosity

Out of curiosity (and some frustration) why do FF and IE not display the forum the same? It seems IE handles java and displayse fonts and stuff as the css says too, and FF can't or won't.

Took a look at your site in my FF 2.x and IE 6 without a login and they didn't look different to me. Do you perhaps have the font settings in your browser preferences set different?

No both browsers are set to define by website - it is this way at work on the computers there as well as on my sister's computer and my parent's computer and my spouses Mac.

I'm going to blame it on the gene pool then. I really have no idea. I can't even replicated on my 3 computers here at home.

It is IE that is out of line. FF and Opera render css styles relatively correctly, even then there are some little quirks. IE is a law unto itself, IE7 is more W3C compliant than IE6 was, but IE is a real PITB for theme designers.

Compared through here to, and i dont get diffrent looks eather, they look just the same with the text

i try to make and convert themes using IE, but if something is off and can't be fixed..look at the same with FF and there is No problems at all..IE + smf/tp is not good..imo

I have to say both of you are wrong, IE is way better than FF. Case in point, IE will display javascript blocks, FF will not. IE IS displaying the forum correctly, NOT FF. FF is too hard to work with, plug ins are not already part of the system where as they are with IE, and if you can find where to download them, you cannot always get them to install, unlike with IE 9.9 out of 10 times you do not need to worry about plug ins. Also as far as the problem at hand goes, FF is rendering everything TOO small, where as IE has everything rendered correctly.

From the user point of view it is down to what suits you, I prefer Opera. But what is important is not the browser that you like, but the browser that your site/board viewers will be using.

When you are designing it is always best to check the display in several browsers, which is why I also have IE7 and FF2.  Most text books and tutorials etc. on CSS use W3C compliant code, but they will quite often have to include workarounds to get IE to display correctly. If you look at some of the SMF code you will see quite a few browser specific bits.
