Hi,

I have installed TP 0.9.8 with SMF 1.1.2 on Mesh TP (old) theme at http://revlimit.co.in

The problem that I'm facing is that, some files have been uploaded to the downloads section by users and I wasn't informed about 3 of them (There was no green thingy on the left saying 1 new file uploaded). Then there was this one file for which in got the green thingy and I couldn't view the picture before approving it(for that matter even after approving it !!). Then I tried downloading the file and it came up with a message saying "You are not allowed to access this section."
I'm the Admin !!!! How can I not be allowed to access a section ???

Then I took the ftp access route and finally downloaded to file in question and it turned out to be a normal file ... No viruses or anything ...

That is the time when I noticed other files had been uploaded to the download section and I didn't have any info about who uploaded them and when and also, who approved them.

I'm sorry about all the exclamation marks but this is really something I have never seen before ... I'm surprised, upset and nervous at the same time ...

PS : When I got in through ftp, I noticed that I could change permissions for the tp-downloads folder or any of it's files ... Could it be that ?? Should I talk to my host ??

Could be several things that give you what you describe.

1. The file they upload doesent get uploaded correct.
2. Wrong format of file allowed
3. File is to big for the settings you have
4. Server configuration (file size, time taken for the file to get uploaded)
5. Permission issues to iles and folders.

As you can see there is several things that can cause your issues, so start by checking them one by one.
Most of them there are answers to if you do a little bit of search and investigate.

File formats ... Check
File size ... Check
No errors found with these 2 ...

How do I go about checking the other 3 things ?

For 1 and 4 I'll need to ask the uploading users ... I don't even know who uploaded 2 of the files.

How do I correct 5 ?? I can't seem to change permissions on the folder ...

G6Cad

To change the permissions to the tp-download folder you have to use FTP or Cpanel (or other server administration tool)

For the other three.
You have to find out who uploaded the files as they are the only ones that can tell you if the upload went well.

Server config you can download a file called phpinfo.php (search on SMF forums for that one) and upload it to your forum root and point the browser to it.
There you can see how the server is configurated for your site.

I have pretty much the same problem. I created a phpinfo.php and got lots of information about my server. But what to do now? I'm still not allowed to download files, which were uploaded by my members while every other member is allowed to download these files. I've never seen something like this ^^ I'm downloading the files via FTP for now, but this is definitely no satisfying solution! So please help us ;)

I have the same problem (cant download one file as admin).

I have 5 files in a section, all have the same file permissions set on the shell (600). Three out of the five I can download, two give me the "You are not allowed to access this section." crap. The files are all correct and functional, if I download them via shell/ftp access they all unpack fine. The only similarities I could find was that the two refusing files are above 400kb and the other 3 working are all under 400kb file size, although I have no clue what this small size could cause some sort of limitations? Upload restriction is set to 2MB and I could find any download restrictions?

update:

just checked with a different user who is in the correct member groups to see that download section. that one can download the file without a problem, so it seems related to tp/smf permission settings, which is even weirder as an admin should be able to do everything, shouldnt he?

tupsi

can we have moved this to the Bugs section please?

G6Cad

Cant do that as it's a matter of configuration on both server and SMF/TP then a bug

Also browser issues can be a fact here.

What browser do you have ?
Have you cleared your browsers cache and temp internet files ? (also a hard refresh (ctrl and F5 at the same time )
Have you checked the file permissions through FTP or Cpanel ?

If you know the file/s name/s check what permission they have when others upload them.

tupsi

it cant be a filesystem issue, as its working with one SMF user who is in the correct group but NOT with the admin user, no matter if I even assign him all groups I have.

Tried Firefox(latest 2.0.4) and IE6, refreshing cache, deleting cache, the whole thing.

file permissions are the same for every file ever uploaded 600 owned by the user apache is running in. As its the same process putting the files up and reading (downloading) them afterwards I see no problem there.

As much as I understand the role of administrator/root whatever you call it, that role should be able to do anything on the system if you not explicitly deny it a certain action. Cant remember anywhere an option where I told smf to deny that user the download.

Dont have any more options to check, any suggestions?
